Frequently asked questions
As part of taking on a new driver, we must do a simple check of your eyesight. This will involve reading a number plate at around 20 meters. With glasses or contacts if you wear them. If you need glasses or contacts to read a number plate, you must drive with them and use them on your test.
All I require is sensible comfortable footwear. This does not include flipflops, wellington boots, bare feet, etc. Please also note that brand new shoes should be worn in a little before you drive any vehicle with them on.
Apart from footwear, please ensure your range of visibility is good if you wear any sort of head covering. This is purely a safety issue.
I have many places we can practice throughout the Swansea area to cover all aspects of your driving needs, e.g. roundabouts, junctions, country lanes, dual carriageways, parking of all forms like reverse bay, forward bay, parallel, etc.
All designed to help you safely get to grips with each skill before moving to a more busy area.
Possibly on a few conditions.
I will have to confirm I am available at the time you need.
More importantly, you have to be ready for your test. We will have a 2 hour lesson and perform the tasks required on the test. It is so important that you are up to standard because
1. I have to consider the safety of the examiner. It would be totally wrong to put an examiner in any danger
2. I also consider the safety of you, pedestrians and other road users.
3. I get judged on how many drivers of mine pass or fail.
All this taken into consideration, I will allow use of my car if you are up to test standard.
Brand new drivers of any age are extremely welcome. I will make your journey from no driving experience to a happy to drive anywhere a smooth, enjoyable experience.
The order we do things largely depends on the driver and the driver's needs. Gone are the days of the instructor lecturing you. Discussion is the way forward so every driver understands why we do things.
Of course, I love questions, it's the best way to learn. Ask away, lets discuss what troubles you.
Even if it doesn't trouble you but you want to know something, ask.
Not specifically because I want you to learn to drive anywhere in the UK, not just around 10 to 15 test routes.
More importantly, I teach you to drive anywhere and to understand the road layout and conditions and deal with them appropriately, safely and with skill. This happens because I like my drivers to understand why they made a decision and how to improve the situation next time if it didn't go as well as expected.
In addition, I think it would be irresponsible to teach someone just to pass the test when safe driving for life is what I firmly believe all my drivers should aspire to. With the correct instruction, a driver should be able to assess and safely navigate all roads and situations.
On a side note, it would be very difficult not cover a number of the test routes (or parts of) at some point as we drive around different areas.
Yes, welcome back to the world of driving. I would be happy to assist. I am happy to help with all aspects of driving including motorways if you want.
It will be a safe, relaxed environment in which to regain your driving skills.
This is to ensure that all new drivers have a valid provisional license for the UK which means the insurance, both car and 3rd party is valid.
